When I ask photographers where do you get most of your enquiries from, the answer is usually, “I get clients from word of mouth & Facebook” do I really need a blog? If so how can I get the clients to book me?
Oh my hustler, there is so many more potential customers out there online ready to book you & love you up! (these are known as a cold audience, they don’t know you or your brand yet) I’m guessing, you totally want to change that up right?
Reality: We don’t have a business if we don’t have clients!

The backstory of my blogging success and how I started profiting from my blog:
I moved my business interstate in 2012 and I soon understood that having clients being able to find me was pretty important and I learned this pretty damn quickly! In a new area not knowing anyone, I didn’t have any word of mouth to fall back and rely on so I needed to make my brand stand out/known and fast!
I had spent 2 or so years of my life previously to this pouring myself into learning how to rank well, learning from the very knowledgeable Zach Prez literally an SEO guru from “photography spark”. Zach 100% changed the visibility of my business!

So I knew once again I had to put into place the knowledge I learned in this time and new strategies that I picked up along the way through business experience!
So I shifted interstate with absolutely no clientele for my photography business – holy smokes I realized very quickly I needed to get seen and in front of my new audience like yesterday!
I won’t lie starting again in a new area was overwhelming, to say the least! Having to build my brand all over again woah I wanted to scream, but I knew exactly what to do. So I got to work on my blogging and content strategy. I knew I wanted to keep tabs on where the enquiries were coming from as I got them so I could put my fingers on exactly what worked, so I knew for certain what marketing strategies to keep going with and what to drop.
So after implementing these things, let’s look back on that strategy!
I literally got my designer to create the contact form on my website and to add on there “how did you find me” so I could keep track on where I was being found and what was working.
I knew online was a major source of where people found me but I didn’t actually realize the enormity of that until recently. Four years on after starting in the new area, I get heaps of word of mouth and Facebook etc of cause but these enquiries online are coming from blog posts that are being ranked for certain specific search terms and ranking well. These enquiries are in addition to all of that word or mouth and referrals, honestly, I have so many more additional enquiries from my Google/online presence and I now have the opportunity to convert them into clients! I went back through recent enquiries today to give you guys some screenshots of where my enquiries are actually coming from & where I was able to rank myself. I don’t expect you guys to just take my word for it haha… So let’s go and look at this now!
Six out of those last eight enquiries came from my Google online presence, that’s HUGE hustlers which are my blog post content. I have never done any google ads until recently, so all of my marketing and bookings to date have come from organic sources and a huge part of that is from my blog. All of the screenshot reference pics you see here have not been paid ads!
So what the heck should you blog about to get your audience connected with you and attract your perfect photography clients that value you?
Through trial and error, I finally came up with the perfect formula for me that converts and gets bookings through the doors! The secret is so freaking simple it honestly was there the whole time and really no secret to it at all. Like literally slapping me in the face that’s how close it was! As I spoke about in the blog post on how this journey started, I wrote out a blog post to rank before moving interstate three months prior which still is on page 1 today for that search term today Four and a bit YEARS LATER friends, that original post in 2012 is still on the first page, first post – MASSIVE! That’s how powerful this is. That particular blog post was one of the most intimate personal blog posts I have written to date! Crazy!!!!
I was emotional, it was a huge deal, but my peeps connected with it, I didn’t even write it for that reason. That post is what got me off the ground, I honestly just poured my heart out to those that had supported me and my little business thanking them for their support from the time I had opened my business until the time I needed to move! I also googled my old area interstate and after 5 years I have dropped to page 5 but in an over saturated area I was shocked to even find myself so I am flawed by that!

These examples are only just from a few search terms I have done – I didn’t want to fill this post with heaps of screenshots but this is the theme throughout many search terms I have done which I have blogged for & it’s DOMINATING the first page is most cases for the search terms I’ve chosen, here is just two! Woah!
The secret was authentically connecting with my tribe, those were the people who valued what I did every day in and outside of my business, & connected with me on a daily level… No longer would I only post about cute little Annie’s session in the studio… I was authentic about the good bad & ugly… Of cause, my work was all over my blog to, but it set me apart from any other photographer and it also spoke to the clients who value what I do. It was seriously like a magnet! I was getting enquiries and people would talk about the blog post they found when they saw me online.

From authentically using the know, like & trust factor with Personality, Entertainment & Education I did it, I won the hearts of my new town!
I had a crazy year after the penny dropped from earning a minimal 20k in 2012/13 to over five times this and it kept going in 2014 & beyond WOAH I now had a six figure strong reputable brand and it all started from the blog, getting seen, getting known & connecting – financial freedom was just a bonus…
